And, again (I went through the full bug log, if I'm correct), is
anyone experiencing this bug caring enough to send a level 5 debug log
as Steve requested in the bug's history?

This is definitely not a server side problem. None of our network disks
are working with Version 3.2.5-4. Have tried from Lenny (5.0.3) and
Ubuntu (8.10) with different error messages, but none of them are
working. Strange enough: One Lenny installation is working, so maybe it

I _think_ I had the same problem until I set:
//|host msdfs|/ = no
/in smb.conf on the server. My setup doesn't involve DFS so this didn't
break anything else.
/I'm not a Samba expert so I can't tell you why that works and I can't
find an upstream bug report for anything like this.

Hi,
I see exactly the same problem. After updating Debian clients from
etch to lenny, the users can't overwrite existing files in a cifs
mounted share.
With etch's mount.cifs there is no problem. There is no info about
this bug or a solution since march.
Updating the etch server to lenny is no o

That agrees with what I've seen - I think that the bug occurs when lenny
(or newer) clients access an etch server. I've just tried it with a

I am seeing teh same issue.
Fresh Debian Lenny i386 install against an etch samba server.

Hi,
I'm also experiencing this - at least, I believe it's the same error, as
the symptoms are exactly the same (if not, apologies for the noise).
I've managed to reproduce this with a new server and client:
- Server runs etch, samba 3.0.24-6etch10.
- Clients run lenny, samba 2:3.2.5-4.

This is a problem that completely puzzles me.
I'm running a samba server on 'etch' and have ACL's enabled on the filesystem
shared by samba.
I have clients with 'etch', 'sid', WinXP and Mac OS X.
/bin/mount.cifs has setuid set so users c
