Perhaps I can help, as I have the same problem and I have not yet run
grub-install.
What I have detected is that I have to delete the search line *before* it is
run.
If I let the system to try to run once, and then I edit boot

I've got the same since last update.
Looking bugreport #502333 and just try to do
grub-install /dev/sda
solves the problem here.
