After yet another upgrade it fails again. This time vlc 0.8.6.h-1 and
all libraries from multimedia.
Is there a way to prioritize Debian packages over other archives?

Yes. Ask the maintainer of these package (Christian Marillat in this
case) fix his package to not conflict the packages in debian.
