I tried CVS HEAD and the grub-probe error has gone--grub-probe -t fs
works again. I'm not quite sure how to test a full install without
conflicting with files installed by the debian package of grub2,
however. Unless you have any better ideas I'll try copying over the
debian directory, fixing up pa

The latest snapshot of grub2 won't boot my system. After the BIOS
summary screen there is printed "GRUB" and at this point the system
locks up. A hard reset is necessary: ctrl+alt+del won't do the job
