i wasn't able to reproduce your bug using same version:
$ displayconfig
open /dev/mem: Permission denied
VESA BIOS Extensions not detected.
/usr/sbin/laptop-detect: line 15: dmidecode: command not found
could you try to use kde-guidance from debian experimental:

Tried to start displayconfig but got the following message instead
