First of all, thank you for your report regarding vrms.
Now that this version has migrated to testing (which mostly served as a
huge update for the packaging structure), I think that the problem you
reported can be dealt with in a new version.
The current version also kept

The most recent upload of vrms added a low-priority debconf note,
telling the user that vrms will run as a cron job. As discussed eg.
