Thanks for the obvious tip. I hadn't noticed it (it isn't particularly
intuitive to me that ones status can be "not even connected" but I'll
adjust easily enough and it saves on menu space which is good).
However, there is a small problem. It doesn't work (at least for me).

You might have noticed in the status selector that there is an entry
labeled "offline." This will do exactly what you want.
