Just to be clear, it's my understanding that this is fixed in darcs
1.0.7rc1, so when darcs 1.0.7 is packaged, this bug can be closed.

darcs creates lots of ssh connections. This is a problem for people
without key-based authentication, but it's also a problem for people
with slow network connections. e.g.
$ time ssh falcon echo foo
foo
