I confirm this problem on Debian Lenny too.
For some reason gnome-volume-manager does not start, or exits
immediately, at first login after reboot. So automounting does not work.
If you logout from desktop and then re-login then gnome-volume-manager
starts and automounting works just fine.

I can confirm the problem mentioned by [EMAIL PROTECTED]
At the first login gnome-volume-manager exits immediately.
At subsequent logins it works normally.
I am running up-to-date lenny (packages' version are the same as reported by
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

After the boot and the first login in gnome session,
gnome-volume-manager isn't started but if after a logout/login then
gnome-volume-manager starts and works well...
