Not a bug in pax: it says:
STANDARDS
The pax utility is compliant with the IEEE Std 1003.1-2008 (“POSIX”)
specification.
Extended Attributes are not part of POSIX/SUSv4 but an extension
(POSIX 1003.1e) to it, which it doesn’t claim to support.
