Hi,
here is a slighty different version of this patch, which I tried to make
as non-intrusive as possible. It has been checked on both kfreebsd-i386
and i386, without breaking anything on Linux (according to build log and
debdiff).

It's seems the patched attached to the bug report doesn't work anymore
with the newest version of dpkg. Please find attached a new patch which
support both the old and the new one.
