I also stumbled over this bug and reported it upstream
(http://bugs.irssi.org/index.php?do=details&task_id=528). Regarding to the
comments on this report it should be fixed in current svn. Maybe somebody
could backport the fix to debian?

Hello,
irssi is running on my server with the proxy module (/load proxy). My
local client is xchat (but the "bug" occurs with any client, even
telnet).
If I /cycle or /join from xchat and then disconnect and reconnect to my
proxy, irssi does
