You might have not noticed that xmaxima is already split out into a
package of the same name. The tk dependence in maxima stems from the
omplotdata script, which is a wish script. This is one of two
plotting options in maxima, the other being mgn

the X dependence, via the (also large) tk dependence, is *only* for the one
file... the xmaxima tk/tcl GUI script, which is not required in order to
access the maxima symbolic engine itself.
