I updated to the "experimental" distribution video driver (and X server), which
does not even start up without Shadow "true".
with Shadow "true" I had no freezes whatsoever using "experiment

as you can see in the report this was reported many times and appears to affect
all 845G chipsets, so please do not ship squeeze without a fix or the following
workaround. it took me about 30 reboots to figure this out.
