I could reproduce this on wheezy many times. Today, for example, the
symbol "}" was changed to "|".
Running setxkbmap manually on every login fixes the issue as reported.

I tried reopening #571437, but it is already archived!
For a long time this problem has occured to me and, besides the backtrace, the
only thing that I've noticed is that Yves and me both use Xfce, though it should
not make any di

believe the problem has to do with the wm in use, though.
The current behaviour is much more acceptable because it doesn't steal
