The 3.1-1 version did not correct this problem.
The vi history operation still produces garbage characters
when the prompt uses non-printing characters between
\[ and \] delimiters.
The vi-search-prompt.dpatch patch can still be applied
to the 3.1-1 version to correct this problem.

with the fix for this. I tracked down the problem in the current version.
