You're right: there is an entry in /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d

zstd is able to uncompress gziped files - and zstd is at
least 30% faster than gzip.
Unfortunately, zstd on Debian 9 aborts with the error

You're right. I had the (errant) assumption, that if a floating point
comparison goes wrong, it goes wrong the same way every time.
"-ffloat-store" seem to work, but the comparison is indeed very fragile.
Patching the two floating point comparisons (zoom and dpi) might be best.
