Exactly the same issue. Had to apt-get download the samba packages and
--ignore-depends.

After googling and googling and googling and much head scratching I came
across the solution. The "bug" is due to a local configuration change
which in my case was done to work around some firefox/iceweasel bug I
have long forgotton about.
Edit the file /etc/gnome-vfs-2.0/modules/default-modules.c
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 3.0.0-2
Severity: important
First reported this bug several months ago. Apart from the advice to use a
different video driver (radeon instead of fglrx which doesn't help at all) I
have heard nothing. Nothing after the 2.6.32 kernel works here.
I can't trust reporting
Package: rawstudio
Severity: important
rawstudio is unusbale in its current form and has been (at least for me) for
some time, please package the recently released 2.0 version as this works
without a segfault. Thanks.

Running this kernel I can log into gnome fine, but running dselect gives:
A error occurred during the signature verification. The repository is not
updated and the previous index files will be used. GPG error:

Package: fglrx-source

Using module-aaistant to build:

dh_testroot
rm -f configure-stamp
rm -f fglrx.ko fglrx.mod.c *.o libfglrx_
Thanks. As requested my smb.conf file (General section) configured
according to the Samba 3 Docs.

Thank you

With regard to the winbind bugreport I made:
I have just downgraded to the newly released (6/6/05) Stable distro and
the problem I described still exists in Winbind.
Thank you.
