I have observed phosphor screensaver running without slowdowns with qemu
(cirrus logic driver) and with vesa driver.
What is missing in the open source radeon driver to running fine this
beautiful screensaver?

Today I can confirm. The problem is in the PPD generated.
After a substitution of the default ppd (generated by debian package)
with the other ppd (generated by hplip) the margins are printed as
expected.
I haven't the know-how to understand what cause the problem, but the
problem is showed
The test who I have made is related to the kernel version 3.8 available
on the experimental branch. I have never think to run another kernel.
So I have tried the latest kernel v3.2 found in the testing banch. It
has a different (but always wrong) behaviour:
During the save to disk the power LED
Yes, s2ram and s2disk work well, also with the LEDs as described above.
I have also opened a bug here
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57391 because I am not sure
this problem is related to uswsusp or the kernel
