I purged xfig, transfig and xfig-libs. I installed the package xorg which
provided some missing fonts. I reinstalled xfig and it started normally by
typing xfig in the command line.

Frequently I save a mail messages, from within kmail, to the hard disk.

aspell-el spell checker highlights parts of two adjacent words and not a
single word. The wrong word is nearby and one of course can visually
