I am experiencing the same issues described in this report for bug #396820. This seems to have remained untouched since then.
My system is Debian testing, was fully updated today 2007-Mar-21, and is running kernel 2.6.18 I have compiled and been trying to package the latest (xscreensaver 5.01) myself today but have been running into debuild failures. This being my first attempt to .deb package anything, I'm at a loss so far, but will keep trying.
