I can confirm the issue

Result:
the progress windows remain there forever until closed

the list of Applets is downloaded and made available

lirc still can't be compiled with 2.6.23 kernel
applying the patch give those error reported by Leandro
is the only option to compile from the source code or we can hope in a
fix for the debian package?

i want to confirm this bug
you can see it by launching gdebi-gtk from the command line
when you click on "install" the program close and you see this:
gksu: opzione `--always-ask-pass' non riconosciuta

nothing to do with gnome 2.18
i was the first to raise the bug here:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=418477
but it has been ignored for now
i don't think it take too much to solve, cause it should only add a new
"name" to the distro list..
