Now, MySQL 5.x is the only mysql-server in testing, and php5-mysql
is in testing too (built against libmysqlclient15off).
If there is no more technical problems (more than one mysql lib),
and if such package can be found for Sarge (dotdeb.org),
why is there no php5-mysqli package in Debian ?

That cronjob is not used anymore, it's replaced by "mdadm -F" [1].
The fix is simple:
# rm /etc/cron.daily/raidtools2

Yes, I didnt change any BIOS settings since 2003.

The error message was irrelevant. The real problem was that the
ICH4 Intel chipset appeared to late
I dont know what exactly was the problem, but it is now fixed for me.
Anyway, thanks to the magic voodoo that helped me :-)
Here are the relevant commands I used between reboots.
vim /etc/modules # added piix near the top
depmod -a
aptitude install yaird
depmod -a
dpkg-reconfigure linux-image-2
Same problem here with linux-image 2.6.15-6. Performance is quite horrible
without my usual UDMA ide settings. Launching bonnie++ means a 10.0+ load !
