I wanted to run a slideshow on a set of directories. Doing it the usual way
$ find pictures_dir -type f | xargs fbi -a -t 10
results in the error

I also experience this problem when running anything that produces a lot of
output: Firestorm viewer; Kernel compile; kino. I find that resetting the
terminal (Menu->Terminal->Reset) will unstick it for a while,
