As I kind of rushed the fix for this here is what I am sure should be
the most correct way to fix this issue. If you want to change the
fonts system wide create /etc/fonts/local.conf for your user only
~/.config/fontconfig/fonts.conf and put the following in the file:

pdfslicer still needs threadpool [1] and stduuid [2] for a +ds build. At the
moment I don't intend to package those (and it's unlikely to change). If

shouldn't affect subpix
We found an issue in Debian kernel 5.10.0-21-s390x which causes similar
problems and we are working on the fix.
Meanwhile I would request to downgrade all 5.10.0-21-s390x running machines to
5.10.0-20.
I will update this bug once the next kernel version with fix is available to
