Indeed it kept on going, I re-killed it at 1.5GB virt, 850MB res. I managed to open another PDF fine, I noticed evince was set to 400% zoom. I set it down to 50% and re-opened the tynemouth PDF; it then opened ok, although sluggish (I'm still swapping back in everything else though, I think)
