Creating a plperl function on kfreebsd (amd64) immediately crashes the
PostgreSQL server in the plperl.so module. You can see this either by
running the built-in regression tests (should probably be done during
the build anyway)
I think the below is a more correct fix. Could you check whether it
works for you?

Could the maintainers comment on this patch? As long as type-handling
exists, it should have a man page, I think.
Btw., I noticed that if you apply this patch, you should also fix the
description to no longer refer to README.Debian.

I was not aware of that, but judging from the discussion, it will still
be hundreds of years before type-handling disappears entirely.
