On occasion I have a situation where console-setup.service fails to
start up due to a race condition. After investigating this, it was

etch b3 on the xSeries 336 server (FYI: that bug was a udev problem on
an IBM xSeries 306).

I am using the debian installer with a preseed:

Reinstalled the same physical machine (not just the same hardware and
type) as in the original bugreport. The first partition is one
cylinder larger; and the last one is one smaller.

Does this background work for you?
I'm trying this on the daily trixie netinst and the installer gets
stuck on 'Detect and mount installation media'.
Inspecting the process list; the preseed/early_command does not seem
to background the script or process.
