I don't know if the PXE standard allows bigger images. I couldn't make
it out from http://syslinux.zytor.com/pxe.php (PXE boot loader for
Linux), but with a bit of googling, it should be possible to find out.

Unix has *proper* IPC and I/O multiplexing. Be glad that you don't need
multithreading as often as in Windows.

Creating graphics Q&D apps in any language, including shell scripts, is
one example. An (ascii) bytestream protocol that deals with widgets is
tremendously useful, IMHO.
