Both partman-auto and grub-installer contain sparc64-related fixes in
their git repositories. However, the packages themselves have not been
updated for a while since Christian is no longer if my information
is correct.
Is it okay when I go ahead and upload new versions of both these packages

As far as the feature request goes, the submits I found in Ubuntu to
implement guided_size (i.e. limiting the space in the VG that gets
used) were:
