Hi!
I've performed a standard installation with Debian 2.2.
MBR installed /dev/hda (/boot mounted on /dev/hda1 which is 100MB)
PC with Amibios v1.5 1995-12-19, Pentium 133, Disk 1,2GB
and I have the following messages which appears (not the same message at
each reboot, random..which is very stan

Well, I don't see why it should be tied to boot-floppies, either.

Hi ,
I wonder if we would be having bzip2 or gzip on the boot floppies.. All the
network modules compiled takes about 1.3M, but compresssed with bzip2 , needs
only 435K.. The size of bzip2 + libbz2.so is about 85K.. We can probably do the
same with the initrd image.. That can save us quite some s

modules for 2.4 are named /lib/modules/2.4.0/kernel/foo/bar/baz.o
modconf is looking for /lib/modules/2.4.0/foo/baz.o
perhaps modconf should call find(1) to locate the modules.

I just tested the above build of the boot-floppies with my Laptop and I
works better than with the original boot floppies. (They had a PCMCIA-CS
Version with didnĀ“t work with my pcnet card.)
1.) Boot screen (where you can boot "rescue") says it uses kernel
2.2.17, instead of 2.2.18preX. Just

IIRC modconf just calls modprobe, so if you have a 2.4-kernel-compatible
modprobe/modutils it will work fine
