I have been reading over your mails again and noticed that in the past
module usb-ohci _was_ loaded. Based on that info Joey Hess has created a
new image for testing.
We already have one report that with this new image the usk keyboard works
(see #278215)!

Here's a bit more data from gentoo 2004.3 livecd.
The system has no modules loaded at the time is has booted to a command
line. I didn't try to get X going.

Well here's what I know: Our sparc kernels are built with the usbkbd
driver built in, and that's the only USB keyboard support provided.

Today I downloaded "the most up-to-date" debian-installer/sid CD image from:
