No, just put the people in the audio group. debian-inst
I also had a problem with sound that I have now resolved. The sound
applet in the default Gnome desktop would give me an error about
/dev/mixer. I ran ls -l on the device:
peach:~$ ll /dev/mi*
crw-rw1 root audio 35, 0 Jan 1 11:31 /dev/midi0
crw-rw1 root audio
