I tried to create a patch for Bug#223679.
This isn't cool, but at least works :-)

How about removing "do_bootloader = no" simply from

The kernel-img.conf file generated after a sarge installation contains
the do_bootloader=no entry. Thus, when a new kernel image is installed,
lilo is not run and you still boot on the previous one.
