Got the answer...
c:\>cd windows\command
c:\windows\command>fdisk /mbr
to get rid of "LI"
I've certinly learned alot on every failure to install Linux. Any tips on
what to do?

In addition...discoed C:...got "MBR FA:" with cursor (not usable) Typing
random letters gave "MBR 1234F:" and further typing at random would put the
cursor under the 1.
Reattached C: and tried the install CD again...kernel still in panic...
reseeded RAM, IDE Controller Socket...no luck...

Linux was loaded from CDROM. On reboot from HD, I am left with "LI" and a
cursor. Tried Rescue Route=/dev/hdd5...got "root file system not mounted".
(Install CD says it is mounted but not initialized.) Tried HDF=CDROM.
Message back: "Could not find kernel image: HDF=CDRO.M".
