Comments/Problems:
desktop has a blank rectangle near ul corner as high as trash icon, 3x
as wide as high.
rectangle occludes any window or other object on the desktop.
system was installed from dvd with following image:
deb
note that this install was started from the desktop install app.
also note that the text install and graphical install choices from the
boot menu both produce working debian systems - see bug report #727035
