I have checked the kernel flavor of my boot floppies. It was 'vanilla',
as you probably expected.
Since you indicated that the kernel flavor might make a difference, I
also tried the root.bin and rescue.bin floppies of the 'compact' flavor,
which is the only alternative that makes sens
