Part 1: failure to install from CD (similar to bug #602380)
I've failed to do a fresh netinst of Squeeze from a CD on a new desktop. The
install hangs during "Select and install software". I looked at console 4
while it was hanging and saw 8-line kernel
I've built three Etch systems this year. The most recent seems fine, but its
installation proceeded differently than in the past, and so I'm confused.
I installed from the latest netinst CD. During "Select and install
software", the following came up:
"The swap partition that was found in usws
> Please try one of the images from:
> http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/
I just did, and it does now detect the NIC. I'll see how far I can get with
the installation tomorrow.

I am trying my first Debian install on a new desktop using the
31r4-i386-netinst CD. I start with options "linux26 acpi=off". When it gets
to detecting hardware, it says "No Ethernet card was detected". If I
manually select driver "e100: Intel PRO/100 Ethernet", the error repeats.
