distribution :) AFAICT, the new install system won't be ready for
a while yet.

The kernel does not have to be on /
A common use for the boot partion was to get
around the ( now fixed ) 1024 cylinder limit in
lilo; IMHO it's not useful to have as a seperate
partition now that lilo's limit has been raised
considerably.
