Tried new image. I am getting desktop option in tasksel and installs a
working desktop. Thanks for fixing. The bug report can be closed.

Normally single CD is enough to install gnome. I have done that earlier.

The new etch is really fantastic. As part of my FOSS promotion
activities I give full 16set CDs to serveral schools,colleges and
others like homeusers/doctors especially in places where net
connectivy is not there/is very poor. Biggest strength of debian is
the collection of packages
