Comments/Problems:
The swap partition (hda5) was made correctly, stated correctly in fstab and
used as swap, but the type was left as "Linux" instead of "Linux swap".

Fresh install with standard 1.44 floppies (rescue, root and drivers).
When configuring kernel modules, it is impossible to load the lp module,
because modprobe is unable to discover the parport_pc dependance.
Workaround: load first the parport_p
I started a fresh installation with rescue.bin and root.bin from

I also copied (in a partition on the hard) disk base2_2.tgz and

Further testing showed this: if you don't specify the nameserver,
then installing the base system via http fails (this is OK :-).
But if you redo the network config step, this time specifying the
NS, the http fetchfile fails again!

I was installing potato from scratch with the 5 floppies. I
choose the network to retrieve the base system, I leaved the
default (http.us.debian.org) as the server, but the download
failed because the network card was unplugged.
Then I plugged the card, but

a few days.
Or, may be, releasing an operating system where it's hard to
figure out how to use the serial or parallel port is critical
only to my eyes...
Let me know how and if I can help...

1 upgraded to kernel 2.2.13, lp modprobes
fine, loading only parport.
May be it is not boot-floppies specific? Something changed in the
modules? Can someone test lp module of kernel 2.2.17 in a
different environment?

hat I was unable to load the
module because modconf remembers the wrong parameter used once
and tries to use it, also if I leave the parameters field empty
in the next tries.

I downloaded the latest (2.2.15) boot-floppies (boot, root,
dev1-3) and
started a fresh installation. During the modconf step I noticed
some
glitches:
- Some modules dependancies are not resolved automatically.
Noticeably lp is not loaded if I don't load parport_pc
manually.
- A lot of modules

Using older boot floppies I destroied my Solaris partition,
because I formatted hda5 thinking it was the Linux native,
instead it was a Solaris slice.
Boot-floppies 2.2.15 solves this bug (#61387), but I think a
