fixed, makedev tweaked, and aboot-installer updated, I can now do an
installation without any problems on my Alpha with the DAC960 controller
as the root device.

Anyway, my money is still on use strict vars . .
om SRM loaded up aboot in interactive mode. From there, I did:
aboot> p 2
aboot> i /initrd.img-2.4.26-1-generic
aboot> b 2/vmlinuz-2.4.26-1-generic ro root=/dev/rd/c0d0p3 console=ttyS0
This got me booted up and into my shiny new Sarge installation and a run
of base-config.

I just tried the same day's PPC installer on an iMAC, and I get stopped
at the same place, only this time it's complaining about there not being
a NewWorld partition for yaboot use (even though it said it was creating
one earlier).
