I just discovered that other modules seem to be affected as well, for example
dm-mod does not load for the same reason, so it's not possible to partition with
anything that requires devicemapper...

With the latest weekly Debian testing netinst image (06-25 and 07-02 tested),
the e1000e, ixgbe, and igb modules cannot load.
Attempting to do so
e hitting cancel and then
having to start all over again.
Of course, I know different now, but the average user who does this on
a big drive for the first time will not.

In my original post I said that "I" found the solution
on the Debian Administration web site. I should have
said that Adam Thornton found the solution for me on
that site.

at sets it in setup script, but its
location eludes me at this time. I hope this helps
someone else! I'll try to submit a bug report when I
get the time.
Editing the file mentioned and removing the level 2
line fixed the problem for me.
