t all convinced that the current installer is
fixable at all. I'm concerned about the next generation
installer, and I think that it's extremely important for
user-experience concerns to play a role in its design.

assuming that you did create a boot floppy, and tells you to eject
that floppy before restarting the machine. On a PowerMac,
however, there is no floppy eject bu

``first'' floppy drive. Macs, of course, only have one floppy, so
it's kind of pointless to tell users to use the first drive.

The timezone dialog is one of the most bizarre I've ever seen.
There are two lists: one that seems (at first glance) to contain
continents or country names, and one which lists time zone
abbreviations (among other things). A

When installing the base system, a dialog asking for a Debian
mirror appears. This dialog seems to be identical to the one
we've already seen (when downloading rescue.bin and drivers.bin).

mirror, including the site and the path to the distribution.
Given that the path should be the same for any major mirror,

initialization and activation steps included any names given to

Once you've chosen a disk to partition, you are unceremoniously
dumped into pdisk, without any instructions as to how the program
works or what you should do.

Partitioning hard disk using pdisk
The first screen allows you to choose which disk to partition. On
our system, it offered us a menu with /dev/sda, /dev/sdb, and
/dev/sdc, but no hints as to which disk was what. Since th
