I confirmed that this is happening with a fresh checkout from CVS this evening, under both netboot and netboot_2.6 builds. I've not read the hardware detection and module loading parts of this installer before and will probably not dig deeper this evening.     Thanks     Bruce gustavo wrote:

Bug#263110: base-config: debconf-seed script doesn't run because it isn't executable.

2004-08-02 Thread Bruce Perens
Package: base-config Version: 2.38 Severity: normal The debconf-seed feature of base-config doesn't work. At build time, debian/rules runs dh_install lib/* usr/lib/base-config/ and that doesn't set the execute permission on any of the scripts. Thus, the base-config menu system won't run

/sys/bus/pnp does enumerate the serial and parallel ports on my system. This role would, I guess, be taken over by ACPI on legacy-free systems.     Thanks     Bruce Bruce Perens wrote: Marco d'Itri wrote: * Revise Hotplug pci.rc to use the sysfs mechanism to ide

I wouldn't try to stop someone from doing this, but have no plans to do it myself. Thanks Bruce Question: what about ISA? A lot of us use old ISA junk for all of our test machines. Any plans for some sort of hotplug support for it? Or semi-almost-sometimes support, given the nature of ISA

Bruce: It sounds to me as if the path the kernel developers want us to take is to integrate most knowledge currently in discover and kudzu into hotplug. All devices present on the system should generate hotplug events, and the installer can capture those. Hotplug would use udev. Sven:

Pardon me if I express naivete, I've been away from this for a long time. First discover1 will NOT work with 2.6 Devfs support in 2.6 has been obsoleted and is often broken. It sounds to me as if the path the kernel developers want us to take is to integrate most knowledge currently in discover

depmod

2003-12-16 Thread Bruce Perens
Depmod breaks in the d-i build scripts because my development system isn't running the same kernel as the one being placed on the install media. I think the kernel image udeb should include boot/System.map-${KERNEL_IMAGEVERSION}, and that should be passed to the -F flag of depmod. You can remove it
