Hello Geert
I made a test with a pre-built image from banana-pi.org.
This is Debian 8 "Jessie" with a very old kernel 3.4.
I assume, the famous sunxi-kernel.
Here, the Ethernet works.
The complete log during booting is attached.
Hopefully, it helps.

Hello,
after installing a Precision 5530 with the Alpha 4 version of Buster,
the system is unbootable, except for a grub without any configuraiton.
Ie, to boot Linux, you need to enter all the partition, modules, kern

FWIW both parts seem unacceptable to me, esp. in a default installation.

Hi,
I'd have another - and I hope stronger - argument to upgrade the
dependency from suggests to recommends: gnome-software is actually
displaying an error when fwupd is not present on the bus (see attached
screenshot).

Hello Geert
The option --context is not available in the Grep of BusyBox.
Attached, there is the complete Boot-Log from the BananaPi M3.
I created the Boot-Log with logging the Serial in CuteCom.
Hopefully, the Log helps you for further analysis.
Please let me know, if you need additional informa

I don't know. But yes, we _could_ be dealing with a hardware problem.
Or a hardware setting with the same effect .

Best regards

Hello Geert
Thank you for the fast response.
Yes, you're right: i forgot to write additional informations.

According http://www.banana-pi.org/m3.html#specification
is the onboard network a Realtek RTL8211E/D
Diagram at http://www.banana-pi.org/m3.html#others
says it is direct connect to main chip's GMAC ( so _no_ USB to ethernet )
From https://linux-sunxi.org/Ethernet#Realtek_RTL8211E
