Just got bit by this exact bug with the 8.1 netinst iso linked to on
the debian.org homepage. I thought my drive was dying, but found no
messages in the logs, no badblocks, no SMART errors... Hopefully this
will be fixed some day.

The text frontend does not support using arrows within the prompt to
correct the user answer. It would be really convenient to have it (e.g.
