initramfs contains the init script. It accepts one of these syntaxes:
root=UUID=
root=LABEL=
root=/dev/mapper/vg-lv (and other non-LVM devices of course)
If the root=/dev/mapper syntax is used, the lvm2 scripts only lvchange
activate that LV
