I suggest that for the next beta we focus on dealing with non-free
firmware better in d-i. An increasing number of machines are difficult
to install with d-i, or don't have all hardware working fully
post-install due to non-free firmware issues.
There are clearly two parts to the problem; non-free

There are several firmware packages in non-free. I suspect there will be
more soon, given all the ethernet driver firmware that has been removed
from the kernel lately. These packages are low-hanging fruit that it

As you may know, dependencies on glibc udebs are the only category that is
still incorrect [1]. This is an attempt to fix that.
Normally we would add an option '--udeb ' to the dh_makeshlibs
call in debian/rules. However, in the case of glibc this does not work.
Reason is that two libraries (lib

Hello!
Please, where I can find all the parameters used by the debian-installer, not
the related to the hardware or kernel. In the page 8 of the bootstrap only
one is shown "debian-installer/probe/usb=false" I guest there should be a lot
more. Where can I find them all?
Thanks.

Sorry, the init.diff in the report was corrupt, sending right version.

needs to install Debian e.g. on 16 MiB machines.)
This number can be reduced by activating swap as soon as

I'm planning to file wishlist BRs against util-linux and parted with the
attached patches. The patches add a menu item number of 99900 to these
udebs and cleans up their descriptions.
The addition of the menu item number makes the udebs be displayed in the
list of optional components, and thus

I've followed up the grub2 side of this at Savannah. However, for
Debian-installer, I think a simpler solution is to detect a HPT37x
controller by PCI ID or similar (eg. udev loading the hpt366 module or
pata_hpt37x or pata_hpt366 would be a good test, I think) and in that
case install debian-mbr i
