Could this be udev or kernel-related? When I try to start udev in
chroot, I get
# /etc/init.d/udev start
* udev requires a kernel >= 2.6.12, not started.
failed!
# uname -a
Linux cortona 2.6.8-11-amd64-generic #1 Wed May 4 20:03:43 UTC 2005
x86_64 GNU/Linux
So the kernel is too old for udev,
I cloned a drive, starting with the MBR:
dd if=/dev/hda of=/dev/hdc bs=446 count=1
However, after installing the cloned drive in the new machine, all I get
is a scrolling GRUB filling the screen. I downloaded an amd64 netboot
CD, mounted / and /boot in /target, and issued
chroot /target

Hello Martin,

Hello
I'am trying to build a debian cdrom with a more young linux 2.6 kernel and
my own packages .
My problem is when i'm starting to install the system, after that the
installer detect the cdrom and the hardware and load all the modules, the
installer says that my cdrom isn't a Debian CD .

Dear Debian Developers,
I have a Intel P4 PCI Express board with two 160 GB SATA hard drives
and one Seagate ide harddrive. I have a floppy drive and a DVD-RW drive.
I have WinXP installed on one of the SATA drives and the Seagate hdd has
some data from my old windows 98 machine.

The installer does not set up sound support for the installed system.
Installing the alsa-base package should probably do the trick. You may
have to adjust the sound volume after installation as

Please don't inflate severity: a reboot failure on one specific type of
system does not make the whole installer unusable.

Thank you for replying Rick,
in fact, install works fine directly to compact flash with installer (it
is installed as an IDE disk). My need was simply to tell installer to
prepare also a second disk. This could also happen to get better
performances and use a separate disk for swap or /home.
